Katherine has always loved spending time in the environment, particularly the beach. She grew up in the outer suburbs of Melbourne. During high school she became a Christian and for a long time struggled to understand how her love for God and love for the environment could go together.
She studied Marine Conservation and Resource Sustainability as well as Fisheries Management in Tasmania and eventually used these qualifications to become a High School Science, Geography and Agriculture teacher. She completed her Honours research (subsequently published) on agricultural land use in the Great Barrier Reef Catchment area and how this impacts water quality. Her particular area of interest was how collaboration and transparency across government tiers could produce more efficient and effective policy and funding decisions. She was a member of her local council Environment Advisory Committee and Waste Management Working Group in 2017/18.
She has lived in Alice Springs for the past 3 years, recently moving to Victoria. She has been
privileged to work at Church Missionary Society Victoria as well as Interserve Australia, both roles where she gained a stronger appreciation for how big God is and what Christian mission can look like, particularly in terms of missionaries working in creation care and farming. She loves growing her own veggies, bird watching and going camping. She is passionate about helping Christians see the connection between their day to day relationship with creation and the goodness of God.
